The Serine Neighborhood of De Luz Located in Fallbrook, CA
Although not officially documented, the Fallbrook Historical society has records reporting statements the name De Luz came from a vaqueros (a cowboy or herdsmen) Jose de Luz who had built a corral near the area to keep his stock. The earliest know documentation of the De Luz name was found on a map dated 1878 showing the Rancho Santa Margarita area which reveals a stream displayed as Arroyo Corral de la Luz. De Luz being the largest in geographic size of all Fallbrook neighborhoods is a place like no other you will experience. It is the most Northerly area in San Diego County where on a very enjoyable scenic drive you will encounter homes with inviting ambiance and individual character. Except for a select few roads that will continue you on your trek through the De Luz area, many roads come to an end and do not go through. Some newcomers to the area get the impression they have disembarked on a journey through a maze of panorama, but for residents, it resonates a feeling of freedom and privacy which they relish on their drive home.
It not hard to picture early inhabitants traversing switchbacks through the hills and valleys where there are now oak tree lined and winding back roads. Some homes in De Luz enjoy views of the hills and mountains from their beautiful and peaceful valley, while from above in the hillside homes, the landscape appears like painted artwork looking through and beyond the valleys below.
There is a blurred line where the Fallbrook De Luz area meets the Temecula/Riverside De Luz area on Sandia Creek Drive. The San Diego County portion of De Luz is bordered to the northwest by the panoramic Santa Ana Mountains. To the north and east rests Temecula in Riverside County. From there, after a short 11 mile descent overlooking the amazing vista from Rancho California Road you’ll find yourself in Old Town Temecula. To the south of De Luz is the Friendly Village of Fallbrook, where you can be to the town center from roughly the midpoint of Sandia Creek Drive in less than 5 miles through a tree lined meandering road.
The Santa Margarita Preserve is located less than 2 miles from the heart of downtown Fallbrook. Heading north out of town and staying on De Luz Road you will encounter the Sandia Creek Drive/De Luz Road split. From there you will bear to the left on De Luz Road and find the preserve directly on your right where you will find an equestrian staging area, horse corrals and 2 miles of non-motorized vehicle, multi use trails.
